29 June: Rumah Terbuka i-PUTRA

30 Days of Celebration!

In some country Eid Mubarak or as it is known here as Hari Raya’ (which carries the meaning of “Blessed celebration” and “Day of celebration” respectively) marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and the transition from the month of Ramadan to the month of Syawal.

In many countries, the month of Syawal is the month of celebration after the fasting month. However, in a lot of countries, the celebratory events are only celebrated for three days but as for Malaysia; we celebrate the month of forgiveness, love and ukhwah (fraternity) for 30 days! Yes, you read that right. 30 Days.

Hari Raya traditionally start with prayers followed by a short sermon and after the prayers, people then visit relatives and friends. Many people wear traditional clothes, give gifts or money to children, and donate to charity. During the month of Syawal Open Houses are also common occurrences. Open Houses became one of the most popular ways for people to celebrate the festival while using that event as a chance to meet and mingle with our friends, family, colleague and workmates.

On 29th June 2018 i-PUTRA took the opportunity to celebrate this festival with the peoples who we actively interacted with throughout the year to celebrate and appreciate their cooperation in a private Open House event for them. To name a few, they are our mobility officers from faculties, language centres, School of Graduate studies, CosComm offices, UPMISA and many more. We are also pleased to receive our honourable guest, UPM Vice Chancellor Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris that afternoon. On that day, the best traditional Malay home cook cuisine such as Ketupat, Lemang, Rendang, Lontong and Soto (if you are wondering what these foods are made out of, do refer to our last post) were served; with much celebrative decorative ambiance where our team have put up for our guests.

We hope through this initiative we could strengthen our working collaboration and hold to the spirit of togetherness in bringing our university to achieve its goal to globalization. While it might be viewed only as a small gesture, but the effect can still be seen further in the future.

Thus we would like to thank everyone who came to our humble open house THANK YOU and Selamat Hari Raya!
